The Natural Interaction platform (NIP) is a carrier grade distributed gateway that provides multimodal and biometric advanced user interfaces. It is designed for both application deployment and development. As a gateway platform NIP is independent of the applications that ultimately use its features.

Multimodal Technology for Smartphones
Simply put, a modality is a single way to transmit information between a user and an applications’ user interface, using one distinct human capability to process information. Multimodal interfaces for Smartphones typically combine at least one visual modality (e.g. a display, keyboard) with a voice modality (speech recognition for input, speech synthesis and audio for output).
